STUDY: While Quality Assurance Rises, Software Testing Still Inefficient

With the rise of internet businesses and companies producing shiny, new ways to share, organize and work together, IT professionals have begun putting their money where their mouse is with increased quality assurance software testing. IT professionals report that even with a higher interest in quality assurance practices, testing tools are not as efficient or as effective as they could be.

According to a recent Capgemini and Hewlett-Packard survey of 1,200 business and IT executives, much of the application testing being done still relies on manual processes that tend to be cumbersome and time consuming. Automated software testing is on the rise, with many companies embracing more easily manageable testing systems through the cloud and linking tasks together to save time. However, for the average software firm, software testing tools have fallen behind with outdated and antiquated technology, thereby costing your firm money.

Software buyers are becoming savvier and demand more of quality assurance teams. According to the survey, many quality assurance departments have responded by adding security testing to traditional software tests. This answers the call from consumers for a safer Internet, free of hacking, bugs and viruses that plague productivity and could cause crashes in the future.

Murat Aksu, study author and head of the HP business alliance with Capgemini, believes that the US is going to see increased investment in automated software testing and the cloud. As the web becomes the fastest way for firms to go global, partnerships and mergers are forged through quality, secure software. Software testing firms should be ready to work with large, cloud-based projects and make sure applications work accurately right from the beginning.

“Increased quality assurance will soon bring increased automation and efficiency”, says Aksu. With more and more companies making testing a priority, the only way to go is up.
