The Role of Software Testing Tools for High-Quality Results

There are many things that go into the creation of quality software – professional people, the right processes, and a reliable software testing tool. Its success depends on this delicate balance and, if skewed or imbalanced toward one element over another, the software will not be functional or efficient.

At Janova, the goal is to supply the software testing tool that helps your team accelerate their development and increase and improve communication on various projects. However, it is the people at the heart of these projects that ultimately influence the outcome. It is important for teams to be professional and positive throughout the project if they want to be successful.

This may seem like common sense, but you would be surprised how many people blame a software testing tool for a human problem. Someone with a great deal of experience but poor communication skills and a negative mindset can be a negative influence on a project, just as a brilliant person who uses the wrong tool will be unsuccessful. Again, it is all about the balance between the people, the processes and the testing tool.

The bottom line is that good tools are important, but the people controlling them have just as much impact on the quality of the final results. Managers who keep this in mind during the interview and hiring process will be more likely to create successful teams that turn out high-quality results.

I couldn't agree more with this blog entry. A team could have the best tools in place, but if the people aren't top-notch -- the project's quality and final product suffers immensely. You need positive, upbeat, and high energy folks who know how to "stay in the game" when the going gets rough. Mental toughness. Poor quality people are detrimental to IT projects. It's my belief that the industry is starting to slowly focus more on the qualifications of the consultant and/or employee, rather than always focusing strictly on the "process" -- which I think is good. I believe in sound IT processes, but I do not believe in always focusing on the process -- when it's clear that certain people need be removed from the project. I'll never "name name's," but I have witnessed functional managers poison the waters of otherwise healthy IT projects by their incessant need to feel significant and heard by the project stake holders. By removing 1 or 2 people, an IT project can go from unhealthy (on the verge of collapse) to thriving in the matter of weeks. The problem is finding the person who has the gusto to speak up and point out the elephant in the room. Most people are too concerned with protecting their status-quo within the organization to rock the boat a little.

My opinion is this: the IT community should start rocking the boat and disbanding loyalties among people that are detrimental to system quality. We absolutely need to start making the hard decisions .... making them early in the project life cycle .... and focusing on what is best for our customers.... not what is best for an internal department within a gigantic organization.... Anyhow, I digress... But everyone has a right to an opinion and I wanted to post mine....
